The book "Rom for kunst 2001 - 2011" presents 75 art projects, as well as essays by Gavin Jantjes, Marte Aas and Line Ulekleiv. The book is edited by art historian and journalist Vigdis Helene Hvale and published by Kulturbyrået Mesén. The book is designed by Your Friends, while the photos of Oslo S are taken by Ivan Brodey. The artists presented in the book have contributed with documentation and original work of arts for the book to be realized.

 

Rom for kunst (Room for art) is initiated by Rom Eiendom AS to promote contemporary art in public places such as Oslo S. Kulturbyrået Mesén has been curator and producer / project manager for Rom for kunst since its inception in 2001.

Room for art is a unique project in Norway in the field of public art, with more than 80 exhibits and a large number of artists. What is the role of art in public space? Why is Oslo S an important exhibition venue? What are the challenges and opportunities with such an unconventional venue?

The book provides av overview of all the art projects in this arena over a 10 year periode, focusing on new ways of presenting art and new audiences, as well as exploring artistic activity and the role of art in public space.
