«Private Life» (Privatlivets fred) is an art project concerning private integrity and freedom. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with Datatilsynet (The Data Inspectorate), Kunst i offentlige rom Public Art Norway (KORO) and Rom for kunst, and presents four artworks with privacy as a theme. The presented works have been chosen after a competition for artists held during the spring of 2008.
The initiative for the exhibition came from The Data Inspectorate, an independent administrative body under the The Ministry of Government Administration and Reform. They work to ensure that personal data is processed in accordance with a fundamental respect for the right to privacy.
These artworks are presented at Oslo Central Station:
”Manuell overvåking – pass deg, du kan bli tegnet” by Ingvild Kjær Tofte. A performance where the artist is a manuel surveillor, and draws people as they pass.
”Venner” by Helene Torp. A video animation consisting of simple drawings and everyday messages, concerning the borders between private and public life.
”Bomring – DK58503” by Veronika Moen. The work is a visualisation of the artist´s 271 passings of toll stations in 2007, registered by date and place.
”ICU/Eye see you” by Bull.Miletic. An interactive video installation with a huge pair of eyes following the public in the main hall at the station.
