eBoy pixels Oslo

29.3.2007 - 7.5.2007
Oslo S

The commissioned work “Future Oslo” by the German group of artists eBoy presents a futuristic vision of Oslo 10 years from now. Opening, March 29th at 2 p.m. at Oslo S.

In 2007, the headline for Rom for Kunst is “Stories about the City”. Through greater urban development projects, the citizens of Oslo experience that the character and identity of the city is changing.
eBoy was established in Berlin in 1998 by Steffen Sauerteig, Svend Smital and Kai Vermehr. The basic idea behind eBoy was to embrace the new opportunities in the digital world. The works would have to be specially adapted for the visual display unit, so eBoy decided to concentrate on the pixel – the image point. In this way, they were able to have 100% control of what would happen on the monitor. Pixels felt good and fun to play with and one may readily see clear parallels between eBoy’s work and computer games.
The rumour spread fast and magazines such as WiredComputer Arts, New York Times, The Guardian, Fortune Magazine, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Edge, The Facehave presented eBoy’s universe. Customers such as Adidas, Diesel, DKNY, Honda, Levi’’s, Microsoft, MTV, Nike, Paul Smith, Pepsi, Replay, Saatchi, SAP and many more have engaged eBoy, and in this way, the so-called “pixel style” has spread all over the world, a style that the group still swear by.
Previously, eBoy has created urban illustrations depicting New YorkLondonVenezia and Berlin, and in 2002, the book “Hello”, that contains a collection of their work until then, was published.
The commissioned work (19,70m x 6,40m) by eBoy will decorate the façade of Oslo S during the period March 29th to May 1st 2007. The artists will be present at the opening in Oslo.
