The Christmas Party

Natasja Askelund

30.11.2010 - 04.01.2011
Oslo S

Rom for kunst offers Christmas spirit with the work “The Christmas Party” by Natasja Askelund at Oslo Central Station. The work is comprised of a picture illuminated by 500 meters of light-emitting thread. Writer Bjørn Arild Ersland has composed texts about the artwork that can be read on screens inside the station and on the Internet. On www.julefesten.no you can draw your own version of the artwork and have your drawing displayed on screens at the station.

The dynamic of a family Christmas celebration is captured in the picture and the texts. Natasja Askelund’s picture depicts a festive scene; three generations around the dinner table and a Christmas tree. New texts by author Bjørn Arild Ersland will be added every day up until Christmas, allowing the reader to follow a conversation around the table. Bjørn Arild Ersland is a nominee for the Brage Literature Prize.

On the website www.julefesten.no you can draw your own interpretation of the party. Contributions by different people are linked together to form the world’s longest digital Christmas party drawing! The website is designed to suit IPhone. The drawings will be shown on screens at Oslo Central Station and on the Internet.
