Snakk med meg

Jason Havneraas

10.9.2007 - 30.10.2007
Trondheim S

Jason Havneraas lives and works in Trondheim but does not speak Norwegian. With the help of teacher Siri Gjære the artist intends to learn the language during a four week period. Lessons take place in the public area of Trondheim railway station (10.09.- 05.10.2007, Mon-Fri 11.00-14.00). We urge the public of Trondheim to participate in this event by stopping by and talking to the artist.

The goal of “Snakk med meg” (Talk to me) is to involve the public in helping Jason to learn Norwegian. He will be available for conversations every day between 12.00 and 13.00 at the staion. While the project is taking place, the artist can also be reached at snakkmedmeg@romforkunst.no.

During these sessions Jason Havneraas will take photographs to visualise the relationship between strangers and passers by in formal and informal conversations. The exhibition will develop together with the artist´s language ability. The project will culminate wtih the artist giving a speech in flawless Norwegian! Portraits will be exhibited at the station until 31st of October 2007. They can also be seen here at romforkunst.no

“Snakk med meg” deals with the issue of arrival. The project documents a personal approach to seeking integration within a society. The artist becomes a symbol of vulnerability, simultaneously questioning the society he is attempting to become a part of. The project can also be seen in relation to discussions about art in the public realm.
